The town you stay in shapes the whole trip. North Georgia's mountain towns sit within an hour of each other but offer very different weeks — a walkable downtown, a gated lake community, apple orchards and wineries, or a quiet river valley. Start with the town, then pick the cabin.
Ellijay is apple country, with Mercier Orchards, mountain wineries and the Cartecay River. Big Canoe is a gated resort community with golf, three lakes and trail access — the shortest drive from Atlanta. Blairsville puts you on Lake Nottely near Vogel State Park and Brasstown Bald.
Lake Arrowhead offers a private lake and golf inside a gated community. McCaysville sits on the Georgia - Tennessee line, where you can walk the blue line into Copperhill. Jasper and Bent Tree are the southern gateway to the mountains.
